AKC Note:  The investment is to provide increased flexibility at the Camden plant to produce solution dyed nylon (SDN) 66. It appears from the announcement that it is primarily targeted at the commercial markets, although the success of the latest “Stainmaster Pet Protect” SDN 66 for residential customers would also be expected to benefit from this investment. In 2013 Invista announced that it was closing N66 BCF production at its Kingston Ontario plant and relocating all BCF to the Camden plant. We understand that the increased demand for SDN product meant that Kingston, which had a more flexible manufacturing footprint, kept operating BCF longer than was initially indicated. This announcement does not indicate if this investment will result in the final closure of Kingston BCF. Note the Kingston plant still produces N66 polymer and low denier industrial yarns, including Invista’s very successful airbag yarn programs.
