“Sustainable is Attainable” – a Conference with a Difference
The SYFA (Synthetic Yarn & Fiber Association) and FSG (Fiber Surface
Group) are holding a Sustainability conference for the textile
industry in Charlotte
on February 12 and 13 at the Sheraton
Airport
Plaza on Billy
Graham Parkway.
A unique aspect of the conference is that part of the registration
fee is being invested in tree planting to make the conference carbon
neutral. In partnership with Edwards Wood Products of Marshville
N.C. the conference has provided the financing for 30 acres of
forest planting. A total of over 15,000 trees have been planted as a
result of this initiative. It is estimated that the ongoing carbon
offsets created by this planting will neutralize the carbon
emissions generated by attending the conference in 18 months. The
trees will continue to absorb carbon dioxide into the future
providing offsets for subsequent SYFA conferences.
The conference features keynote speaker Ray Anderson, chairman of
Interface Inc, past co-chair of the President’s Council on
Sustainable Development, author, motivator, and as quoted by the New
York Times “perhaps the
leading corporate evangelist for sustainability.”
Speakers from Ford, Steelcase and Patagonia
will add their expectations for sustainable products to a range of
industry speakers providing vital information in the drive to
sustainability in the textile industry. Conference attendance and
sponsorships have reached record levels for the association
confirming the vital importance of the conference theme for the
industry.
The conference is open to anyone interested in issues of
sustainability, for conference details and registration contact
